Our nation's 192 accredited law schools are graduating approximately 40,000 new lawyers each year.
Law firms that employ over 100 lawyers represent only 1% of the type of law firms in the United States. Most firms, about 78%, have between two to five lawyers.
According to the US Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 27% of lawyers are self-employed, either as partners in law firms or in solo legal practices. Lawyers held about 761,000 jobs in 2006.
